What I measure on this site, and what I don’t
This is a personal blog. Nothing is sold here, there are no ads, and no data is shared with third parties beyond what is described below.

Who is responsible
Alberto Marturelo Lorenzo, in a personal capacity, from Santiago, Chile. If anything on this page raises a question, reach me on LinkedIn.
What I measure and why
I use Google Analytics 4 for one purpose: to know what gets read and where readers come from, so I can decide what to write about and in which language. What I care about is the aggregate — this article gets finished, that one gets abandoned halfway — not individuals. No profiling, no cross-referencing with other sources, no advertising.
Cookies and local storage
The first two are needed for the site to work and are always stored. The Google ones only appear if you accept measurement.
| Name | Origin | Lifetime | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| analytics-consent | This site | 1 year | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected measurement, so you are not asked again. |
| payload-theme | This site | Persistent | Your light or dark theme preference. Not a cookie: it lives in your browser’s local storage and is never sent to any server. |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics | Up to 2 years | Tell repeat visits apart so you are not counted as a new person every time. Only created if you accept. |
What happens if you reject
I use Google’s Consent Mode v2. In practice: if you reject, no Google cookie is stored in your browser and you cannot be recognised between visits. Google still receives an anonymous signal that a visit happened, with no identifier, and estimates totals in aggregate. If you would rather nothing reached them at all, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or use any blocker — the site works the same.
Who else touches the data
The site is hosted on Vercel, which logs server requests as any host does. I also use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to see real page performance: neither uses cookies nor identifies anyone. Content lives in a Neon database and images in Vercel Blob. None of these services receive your data for commercial purposes.
How long it is kept
Google Analytics data is deleted automatically after 14 months, the longest the tool allows. I keep no separate copy.
Changing your mind
You can grant or revoke consent at any time from here. Changing it brings the notice back so you can choose again.
You have not answered the notice yet.
Changes
If what I measure changes, I update this page and the date above. There is no fine print anywhere else.
